Alaska Jiu Jitsu
Alaska State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament. Cutter Degerlund vs. Chad Brite
Men's 195-208lb bracket. Single elimination tournament. This was my first tournament. I have been training BJJ for about 2.5 years, but could only make class once a week for the first two years, so slow progress. I was fairly pleased with the guard pull, that was my plan. I was able to keep my opponent busy in closed guard with sloppy cross collar chokes. He kept having to deal with those which kept him from focusing on breaking guard. He finally came off base enough for me to get a good sweep setup. Pulled off a decent scissor with push assist, but then did not follow it up fast enough. Chad did a great job of filling the big space I left him with his knee and going straight to an attack. I did not defend the leg attack soon enough (I thought wrongly that it was illegal move, definitely my mistake). He put the pressure on and submitted me with a great, clean, straight ankle lock. Thankful for a great opponent and a fun tournament.
